You can't please everyone. ...I really like rule 7. You can't please everyone. In fact, you can't even please all the people in your critique group. While I do advocate critique groups, I notice my critique partners try to make my writing more like their writing. (Of course, I never do this.) If I took all their suggestions the mishmash voice would be totally boring! A unique voice makes for a unique story.
