We've been getting an uptick in the number of queries we get about submitted stories.
Please don't do this. We get hundreds of stories. We don't have the manpower, er, personpower to answer queries about stories.
Thanks!
Happy weekend!

One thing that I find helpful for queries is simply a status page -- just an updated page on a blog or site which says something like how long ago the oldest submission still under consideration was received. That way, it's easy to check and at least know if your submission (or response to it) has definitely gone missing. And such a page is simple and easy to maintain.
But without that, and without sending a query letter, the alternatives are to either assume it's still being considered, or to assume it isn't -- and neither one is an entirely great option for the writer.
